Don't worry, there won't be flannel, or rather, there won't be much flannel.

Then there was Blazer and Bridesmaid

And so my dear sister is married and off traveling the world with her love...

Tank: Maurices
Dress: Bridesmaid dress worn previously by my sister

Here is my outfit for the rehearsal dinner. I wore a bridesmaid dress hemmed much shorter than it was originally. It's actually an eggplant purple. It's hard to tell in the pictures. These pictures were taken at the end of the night when I was so exhausted I wanted to crawl into bed, but, alas, the night before a wedding there is much to prepare for. We watched Bridesmaids. And you know, prepared...But, mostly I wanted to show that it is possible to re-wear a bridesmaid dress. I would hem it a little shorter, this was hemmed for my sister and she's way taller than I am. But the outfit turned out pretty nice, eh? Blazers are just such an outfit changer.
The wedding went absolutely great, no major problems. The reception was so much fun. And I got no pictures. I was the maid of honor so I didn't have much time to snap pictures. I was the party leader! Once my sister gets some pictures back from the photographer I will try and get some up here. She was gorgeous, all the bridesmaids were hot. I just can't believe its all over with now. It went by quickly and I miss all the fun already.

Kitchitikipi and Fayette

Okay, here are those red tights again. I can't get away from them. I've been trying to find an outfit that looks perfect with the red tights and I feel like I've failed. So here I am going to share some awesome pictures of two great places in the Yoop that my husband and I visited on our anniversary two weekends ago: Kitchitikipi and Fayette.

Bright red tights with a darker winey sweater. Yay or nay? Does anyone have an opinion on wearing different shades of the same color? I am sometimes on the fence about this. Occasionally I can get it to look really well, but other times, not so much.

My lovely husband and I in front of the spring.

Fayette - a ghost town
I'm standing on front of something that had to do with the shipping of some sort of mine material. I don't remember. Go visit and find out.

An original building in Fayette

Kitchitikipi is one of the most beautiful spots I have ever been to. Seriously worth checking out if you are ever in the area. Kitchitikipi is outside Manistique and Fayette is about a half hour away from there. We didn't have as much time to wander at Fayette, as it was a spring of the moment decision to go, but there are quite a few buildings you can wander in and out of, a beach, trails, fun stuff. Great place to go if you like history.

This week was hectic. I had some great outfits for work. They were pretty awesome and I wish I got pictures of them but by the time I got home...I will offer no excuses. I failed as a blogger this week. But, this weekend will be my redeeming moment. Hopefully. My sister is getting married and I have an awesome outfit planned for the rehearsal dinner, then, of course, the bridesmaid dress...and maybe I could get some pictures of B-Riv wedding style. Come on, girls, I know you can bring it. You know who you are...

Study outfit and a plethora of stripes

With the start of school, Sunday is usually not fun day. I sit there for long hours pouring over whatever chapter I have to have read, or homework assignment, or test to study for. So then does it matter what I end up wearing when I'm just huddled on the couch clinging to a pen and notebook, studiously taking notes?
Yes.
Reason One) It's fun to put different outfits together with clothing one never thought to put together before.
Reason Two) I now work at a pretty conservative place, so the weekends are my time to get a little crazy with my clothing.
Reason Three) It bears repeating, it's fun. I never was a sweatpants/sweatshirt type of girl.

Here is my study outfit for this Sunday:

Both Tanks: Forever 21
Cardigan: Target
Scarf: Not sure...
Spandex: Under Armor
Shoes: Really, you can't tell?

I have to show you the inside of my shoes. You will not find this in any store that sells Nike. My husband made me these and I like to show these off to anyone who will look at the inside of my shoes. He is an orthotist and makes braces and inserts for flat footed people like me! (and more, google what an orthotist does if you want). They match my shoes! How awesome is this! Lets give my husband a few more explanation points!!!

Stripes, stripes anyone? Comfy outfit, really. The stripes just made it more so. I love this look for some reason and I can't tell you why. Just layer on a bunch of stripes, add slightly disheveled hair and see how you feel. Fun, that's what that feeling is.

Harlow Lake and Red Tights

It has been a long week! Sooo...long. But now it is Friday and I can sleep in tomorrow!

I am sitting here waiting for my chicken noodle soup to finish delish-ifying itself in a crock pot. Yep, a crock pot, we'll have to see how that goes. And I want to share some pictures of the beautiful Harlow Lake, which is located just outside of Marquette, that was taken a couple weekends ago.

I feel like I am failing a little in the outfit area, especially since I haven't posted all week, I should come back with something amazing right? Well, I'm hoping the red tights and the scenery make up for the, in my opinion, a mediocre outfit.

Cabins you can stay at, I would love to do it next summer for a weekend.

Glasses I found on the ground, and I felt like I was finding the ancient artifact of a lost people by coming across this piece of lost civilization in the middle of the woods, thus the picture.

Dress: Forever 21
Cardigan: Target
Boots: Madden Girl
Belt: Kohls
Sunglasses: Target

I don't know if anyone out there does this, but play with outfits until it finally looks perfect. Well, this outfit needs some tweeking. But I love the red tights. Love colored tights so much! But what about colored tights at work? Any opinions? Yay or nay?

Sister's wedding is next weekend so hopefully I will get some great posts up, especially one on rewearing the bridesmaid dress. Yes, it is possible.

Sweater Dress and Rad Tights

This sweater dress I hoped would be good to wear to work since it's a turtle neck. But, tis too short. It happens. Ah well, for the weekends it is.
It is fashion week and I am just missing any of the live streaming that is available. But I love getting to read about it a little later on other's blogs. I was never aware of it before and occasionally wondered even when it was. Now I know and it's so exciting even though it is miles away...across the country...sigh...

Anyway, here is the outfit. Hope you all like it!

Umm...deciding this might be a little too short for work.

Dress: Given via sister
Tights: Vera Wang via Kohls
Boots: Steve Madden
Jewelry: From here and there

This weekend is my anniversary and we will be hiking around the yoop, we haven't decided the location yet, but hopefully I get some great pictures of our great habitat and some outfits!

The first day of work

Ah, the first day of work has passed by and besides my brain being melted by all the new info, it went quite well. I dressed a little on the conservative side as I did not know the dress code, which turns out to be a little on the conservative side. I have to wear nylons or socks. And the only question I had about the dress code was if I could wear colored tights. Which I can, so all is good. Funny thing is, I wasn't even dressed that conservatively for my interview.

Tank: Kohls
Cardigan: Maurices, ages ago
Belt: Forever 21
Pants: Kohls
Clutch: thrifted

I adore these shoes. They are Anne Klein and so out of my usual range of what I keep on my feet, which is generally a low key pair of flats. Yep, favorite new pair of shoes and who knew they would be loafers with a patent finish?

September has started and what a month it will be. Anyone catch The Rachel Zoe Project last night? New favorite show. Okay, gotta keep this short, short for me that is. Night all!

A Scarf, A Clutch

With the scent of change autumn clinging to our clothes, what appropriate way to represent that than with a scarf found hidden in the depths of a forgotten container. And a fireplace. And some garbage cans?? Still unpacking...

Scarf: Don't recall...
Shirt: Target
Skirt: Maurices
Belt: Forever 21
Clutch: Thrifted

Cheers to your Labor Day weekend. Hope you all aren't laboring away. Tell me of what you did, what you wore! Yooper girls, any special U.P. destinations?

Feeling a little Nautical?

Today I feel a little more on top of things. Yay for me. Hope everyone else out there is adjusting nicely to school, or work, or just the cooler weather.
And here is me in a nice blue striped shirt...

Shirt: Target
Cardigan: Target
Skirt: Maurices
Belt: Forever 21
Boots: Born
Socks: Hue
Necklace: American Eagle, ages ago

Yes, there is that pencil skirt again (and the boots and the cardigan). I am loving it right now and wearing it frequently. It is easily worn high waisted, and belted. Can you not tell how much I love stuff belted? It just highlights the waist so nicely, makes shirts look like they fit better (if they don't). They easily dress up an outfit, make an outfit look more pulled together...shall I go on about the benefits of a belt? Nah, you guys get it.

I like the nautical feeling of the stripes. I had been looking for something like this for awhile. When running into a whole huge rack of the blue and white stripped summer basic, well, I ran away, because it just felt so old womanish to me. Whats different about this shirt? I don't know. Maybe because the white is slightly off white or because the stripes are on a basic scoop neck t-shirt? I don't know. Ah, the mysteries of why I do the things that I do...

Nautical stripes are great for the U.P. because there is water, literally, everywhere. Isn't it great? If you don't think so, move away for awhile and then see how you feel about wide open spaces and the scent of fresh water. You will miss it. Guaranteed.
Really, nautical stripes don't need to be worn on a boat or by water for that matter. It's a pretty easy trend to pull off. Just keep in mind that stripes can sometimes make you look a little...wider. If you happen to run into an entire rack of blue and white stripes, you don't need to run away like I first did. Experiment, see what size stripes/fit/cut/whatever look best on you. Just, you know, avoid a sailor hat with it. Or not, that could be cute too. With bell bottoms!

Have fun, my little U.P. sailors enjoying the long weekend and the last long days of summer.
